Benefits of Training

What are the benefits of training at Seido London Shibu?

Karate practice at Seido London Shibu develops the mind, body and spirit, enhancing the lives of our students, helping ordinary people accomplish extraordinary things.

Non Quitting Attitude

Non-quitting Attitude

Our students discover they are not limited by their circumstances. Through karate training students learn to dig deep when things get difficult. They realize that they have incredible potential and that it is possible to overcome obstacles and persevere when things get tough.

Students get used to think in this manner, because they are challenged in training and have the opportunity to safely push themselves. They are rewarded for their efforts and their progress is earned. A non-quitting attitude is the number one benefit of training mentioned by students and it is taken seamlessly into their everyday life.

Non Quitting Attitude

Focus

Karate requires focus. This is especially demanding for young children, but with the help of our experienced instructors, even the most distracted 5-year-old benefits from training.

The demand on focus also makes karate training highly useful to adults and it produces a meditation-like effect during class as students immerse themselves completely in training and effectively disconnect from the stress and demands of work and daily life.

Non Quitting Attitude

The “do” in karate-do

“Do” stands for “way”. Karate-do is a continuous process with no specific end point, even though it may present objectives and accomplishments along the way. It is a journey of self-improvement and a practice which provides structure, health and many friendships. This is why it is possible to practice karate as a child, an adult, a senior, with or without physical limitations. It is a way of life.

Respect

Respect

Respect is important in Seido Karate and is based on the recognition that each student or teacher plays a role in our community. Students learn to acknowledge their peers and value the people in their lives. Most importunately, students learn to value their own effort and accomplishments and to recognise that no journey is taken alone.

Self Reliance

Self-reliance

Through karate training students learn to stand tall and to be self-reliant. Although all training happens in a community driven environment, all students have to work in their own individual skills. Over time, even the shyest of our students become comfortable performing in front of their peers. Also, knowing how to defend themselves, our students gain confidence when facing the world.

Wellbeing

Wellbeing

Karate is based on centuries of accumulated knowledge in training methods and body mechanics. It provides increased mobility, flexibility, fitness and strength. Karate-ka learn how to safely push their boundaries and accomplish goals that seemed completely out of reach before they started training.

Team Spirit

Team Spirit

At Seido London Shibu we believe in community. During karate training we need to rely on our peers to learn and to practice self-defence techniques. Students of karate-do learn to be invested in each other’s success.

Resilience

Resilience

At Seido London Shibu, students learn to value the process of developing a skill. When faced with an obstacle, instead of being deterred, they learn that unwavering patience and strength of mind will slowly break down barriers and allow them to carry on.

Conflict Management

Conflict Management

Karate is about avoiding conflict and learning how to deal with adverse situations. It helps to prevent bullying and to teach more spirited children to be kind and not to rely on physicality to resolve disputes. It teaches self-defence techniques for the unlikely situation of an attack, when evasion (always the best and first option) is not possible, and one must fight for his or her safety.

Work Ethic

Work Ethic

Karate teaches students to work for their achievements. At Seido London Shibu all progress is earned. Unlike the practice common in some martial arts schools to award belts based on time of enrolment, our students have to work for theirs. This ensures that the belt means something, so our students feel a sense of accomplishment as they progress through the ranks.
